I am going to visit all 54 public library branches in Philadelphia.  I have lived in Philadelphia for fifteen years and want to use this experience to explore new neighborhoods, visit my old neighborhood libraries, and raise awareness of the importance of libraries.  I am not going to give myself a deadline, i.e. one year.  I want to take my time and visit when I have the head space and mind space. I visited four libraries this month and took books out of all of them, some books I had time to read and some I did not.

I have always loved public libraries.  It was one of the first places I was allowed to go by myself.  I only had to cross one busy street. I went once or twice a week growing up. Taking out books, wandering the shelves that created little rooms, using the card catalogue. the smell
